Hand-drawn. The flower and bird paintings are painted in a style that respects realism.
Blue and white porcelain began in Japan at the beginning of the 17th century, when Imari ware (Arita ware) was the first to produce blue and white porcelain, inspired by the Chinese blue and white porcelain that had been imported until then. A pattern is drawn on a bisque-fired white piece of pottery using a paint called gosu, which contains cobalt, and then a transparent glaze is applied on top before it is fired.
