The world's first "wood bending"?
The "Ant Chair" was released in 1952.
It got this name due to its eye-catching shape that resembles an ant.
Using advanced technology to bend wood into a three-dimensional shape , the world's first molded plywood chair with a one-piece back and seat was created.
The Danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen helped us develop this technology.

The Ant Chair was designed for the employee cafeteria of the pharmaceutical company, Novo Nordisk A/S.
It was designed with three legs, one in the front and two in the back, so that as many pieces as possible could be placed on the large round table.
During the prototyping process, there were issues with cracks and distortions at the boundary between the backrest and the seat.
As we removed these sections from both sides, it took on the shape of an ant chair with a narrow waist.
