Product name: Wire Chair Common name: BIKINI CHAIR Designer: Charles & Ray Eames Brand: Herman Miller

This is a wire model of the popular Eames shell chair series. The metallic silver legs and the seat in the same color as the Eiffel design give it a modern look, but when combined with the navy leather pad, it embodies an exquisite casualness and comfort.
Perhaps more than any of their other designs, the Wire Chair illustrates the Eameses' open-minded approach to materials, rather than being interested solely in superficial beauty. Their primary concern was the harmony of form, function and context. With this in mind, the Eameses designed the Shell Chair in a variety of finishes, materials and leg combinations.

About Charles & Ray Eames
Charles Eames, born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1907, and Ray Eames, born in Sacramento, California in 1912, are two of the most representative mid-century designers. They studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in the United States and married in 1941.
The Eameses were active throughout World War II, and as new materials and processing techniques were developed, they incorporated them into their designs, pioneering new furniture designs. The beautifully curved Eames Shell Chair features a seat made of colorful molded plastic (FRP) and legs made from steel pipes. These materials are lightweight, inexpensive, and highly durable. Taking advantage of the characteristics of the material, the Eames Shell Chair was the first mass-produced FRP chair.
